40 minutes from town is a response to recent events in my partner's family that involved us travelling to Mirani, in the Mackay region, on several occasions. During this time I photographed the family in everyday life and through some difficult periods. With the region's constant sugar cane and large skies I felt a certain borrowed nostalgia through my partner's memory and bystaying at the family place. With this connection I explored the direct domestic and broader public space in and around the Mackay region. This recent documentation offers personal glimpses of a family's experiences in regional Australia.
